The Digital Nomads of DevNest
29 April 2024
As the world continues to embrace digital connectivity, some of our team have taken the remote-first philosophy to its natural conclusion — working from wherever makes sense for their lives.
Remote-first, not remote-only
DevNest has always believed that the best work happens when people have autonomy over their environment. For some, that means the Cluj office. For others, it means a different city, a different country, or a different continent.
What it actually takes
Making remote work well isn't magic — it's process. Clear communication norms, overlap hours that actually work across time zones, documentation that doesn't rely on institutional memory, and trust that people will deliver what they said they would.
The digital nomads on our team have shown us that when those foundations are in place, geography becomes much less relevant than capability and commitment.
The practical reality
Not everything is easy. Time zones create scheduling friction. Spontaneous whiteboard sessions don't happen naturally. Some problems are better solved in the same room. We don't pretend otherwise.
But the gain — access to talent regardless of location, and the ability to structure work around life — is worth the investment in making it work properly.
